Bartels exemplifies good quality despite its simplicity. Bartel's three main menu components are bread, coffee, and juices; building around a core of dishes allows them to be creative with ingredient combinations with different flavours and textures. Their speciality sourdough, is extremely satisfying to eat, with a good bite and taste. Sourdough is one of the world’s oldest leavened bread; its origins are said to go back as far as ancient Egypt. It's that sourdough starter that is unique to each baker, and with that starter, you could even make cake, biscuits, or pancakes. the flexibility, unique texture and flavour of sourdoughs have kept them popular through time. Additionally, there's something special about their immersive dining experience and seeing bakers preparing on one side and baristas making the coffee and juices on the other.
It's all about that bread. For me, a good sourdough has to have enough texture without being too hard; this texture should complement the filling of the sandwich and serve as the vessel to deliver the food to you. Sandwiches can be difficult to balance in terms of flavour, texture and filling-to-bread ratio. Then the filling itself—you have to decide the ingredients and sauces to pair together to make it satisfying to eat. My family loves eating the Cubano sandwich from Bartels. There is a lovely meatiness and the jalapenos give it a kick, along with cheese placed between their grilled signature sourdough, making it an almost perfect sandwich. A filling, satisfying and scrumptious meal.
Everyone we bring to Bartels loves it. I enjoyed their fruit juice combinations which were fresh and vibrant. For me, the standout feature is the vibe of the restaurant. I love the visible kitchen concept, and I felt relaxed eating at Bartels. Moreover, their bread is an industry-standard in Thailand, and with their diversity of choices to eat with their bread, I highly recommend trying it. Bartels is no bargain if anything leaning on the expensive side, but it's definitely a good option for brunch, for fresh meals. You have to try their Cubano sandwich.
